Chandigarh Mayor Election:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a decisive win in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections held on Thursday, capturing all three top civic posts: Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayor.

BJP councillors elected Saurabh Joshi as Mayor after he secured 18 votes in the Municipal Corporation House. The party also elected Jasmanpreet Singh as Senior Deputy Mayor and Suman Sharma as Deputy Mayor, with both receiving 18 votes each.. The results ensured complete BJP control over the key leadership positions of the civic body.

In the Chandigarh Mayor Election , Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nominee Yogesh Dhingra polled 11 votes, while Congress candidate Gurpreet Singh Gabbi received 7 votes. Voting for all three posts began at 11 am and was carried out through a show of hands, as stipulated under the Municipal Corporation Act.

For the Mayor’s position, the BJP fielded Saurabh Joshi, the Congress nominated Gurpreet Singh Gabbi, and the AAP put forward Yogesh Dhingra. All three parties, along with one independent councillor, also contested the elections for the posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

The current strength of the Municipal Corporation stands at 18 BJP councillors, 11 from the AAP, and six from the Congress, in addition to the Member of Parliament who holds a voting right. This numerical advantage played a key role in shaping the final outcome.

With the voting process concluded, the Municipal Corporation has completed its annual selection of office-bearers. The newly elected Mayor and deputy leaders will now be responsible for steering Chandigarh’s civic administration during the upcoming term.
